A Spider’s Web Indeed

By Living Room Realty, October 31, 2018

One of the 8 values of Living Room Realty is connection. I’m not sure this is the value that resonates most with me, but is certainly the one that brings the most joy to my work. When I help someone through the home buying or selling process, I automatically connect as so much of my client’s life revolves around the transaction…at least for the few months that we work together.

Once this connection is built, it continues to grow beyond my client and extends to our personal communities. If you were to diagram these connections, it would look like a spider web. As I get to know my clients better, I discover layers that connect us not just to each other, but also to other people within our circles.

A great example of this is my connection with Abby and David who just bought a lovely house in NE Portland.  I met Abby’s mother, Jane, at an open house in 2017.  Jane was a hoot and I was excited to help her find a wonderful home in NE Portland.  A year later, Abby reached out to me letting me know her family was moving to Portland and needed a rental.  A friend of mine had just told she was traveling for a year and wanted to rent her house. I immediately put Abby in touch with this friend.  Not only did Abby rent my friend’s house, but actually, unbeknownst to both, they already knew each other through work in the Bay Area.  I love seeing how those close to me have connections to each other outside of me.  I think of those I’m connected to as my community and our communities often overlap with other communities.  This connection, these communities, give us the love, support and friendship that we need and bring a smile to my face at the end of each day.
