When your essence leans more hippie than hipster, Buckman might be for you. Hawthorne Boulevard skirts the southern border of the neighborhood, packed with funky shops and eateries. The area is among the most popular and lively in Southeast Portland. The groovy thoroughfares are surrounded by sweet neighborhoods full of big old Craftsman and Victorian homes, plus plenty of apartments. It’d be difficult to tire of the seemingly endless restaurants and bars that dot Hawthorne and its nearly equally funky cousin, Belmont, to the north.
