A First For Me!

By Living Room Realty, April 13, 2019

It’s not uncommon to get a phone call from another REALTOR® about a previously sold property. Maybe they want to know if there were any concessions, how did I get the pricing, what are the plans with the property etc.. but this one was a first for me. The agent on the other end began the conversation by asking about one of my properties that sold the year prior- my hardest sale to date that involved squatters, neighbors with guns, police, in house bonfires and drug needles. I heard her murmur the street name and my body was overwhelmed with dread. She asked if my buyer might be interested in completing the front end of the property by purchasing the home that she was about to list. I thought “ya know, probably! How much?”. She loosely presented a potential price, and I thought it was reasonable.. but I could tell she was holding something back. Before we hung up, she said “well…. There’s something else….” (drumroll.. here it comes). The home owner passed away in the home, (ok… no big deal… it happens), a while ago (ok…. No big deal.. it happens), like a few months ago (ok…. where are you headed with this?)…. And they didn’t find him until just now (ok…. now I’m listening). “So they’ve removed what they could”. (whoop, there it is). A very simple sale turned into a 4 month string of probate, surprise wife on title, smelly, hazmat messiness. Just another glamorous day in the life of a REALTOR®!
