This was a tough one for me. I say tough because we, as real estate agents, have a job to do. We are here to make a transaction happen for our clients. I had listed this home at a certain price based on recent sales in the area as well as my seller’s desire to make it “quick”. You see my clients wanted to leave Oregon. They lived and grew up in Oregon, then lived in Montana, and came back to Oregon for family. In recent years, after many trips back and forth to Montana, the thought of moving back had crossed their minds several times. So that’s where I come in. Megan called me, telling me their plans, and wondered if it was possible.
We placed the home on the market and were quickly inundated with interest and adulations about the condition of the home. Megan and Chris were so excited they went to Montana and put a down payment, as well as a contingent offer, on a home in Montana. Now the heat was on to get this home sold and quick. We received a full price, but contingent offer, as well as many “possible offers”. I called back several agents and since we were only on the market for 2 weeks many were unsure about writing a contract on their home. We found one person, that understood our predicament, they wrote an offer, and after several back and forth’s, discussions of prioritizing money, family, lifestyle, and the future were had. It was tough for me, knowing that with some time, we could get more money. For me, it was tough. For my seller’s it was tough but then it wasn’t.
They saw the future and the past at the same time. Leaving Oregon for a future in Montana. Doing something that’s been on your mind, giving your kids a future of fishing, big open skies, skiing, proximity to National parks. Their list was endless. It was all “easy” for them at a certain point.
