I can hear my Dad in my mind now…”did you bring pen and paper, kid?”
Over the last year of his life, we met weekly and sometimes, he was ready
to share all that he had planned in preparation for his passing.
“ I want the grandkids paid out first and foremost. You can do that by selling the car, cashing in the…”
“Once that’s done, you and your sister can put the house up for sale”.
I would interject, “but what if I want to keep the house? Is that OK?”
“Wow, you mean you might want to keep this place? That would be great!”
“ Yes Dad, I want to keep it in the family. You and Mom loved it so much and I am in the business of real estate, after all”, I would say with a smile.
I reminded him a couple times over that last year of his life, and I don’t think he 100% believed I would go through with it. Alas, here we are Dad, your sweet home is still in the family.
Cheers,
