When we set out to find Shana and Reed’s next home, it felt a little like they were a couple from House Hunters: she wanted a pool, he wanted a nice flat backyard for their kids to play, she was open to living in Washington, he wanted to stay close to Lake Oswego. When the timing didn’t work out for the one they both loved the wind was taken out of their sails a bit. But when they accepted an offer on their house, we really had to step on the gas. We looked and looked, broadened the geographical parameters only to narrow them again, looked on both sides of the river, made a pro/con list on a white board, exchanged 4,271 text messages. The situation was feeling hopeless…what were they waiting for?
Oh, their unicorn, of course. A stunning 1942 Cape Cod on an oversized lot that had been thoroughly and thoughtfully updated. No pool, but a view of the Columbia River and Portland International Airport. This stunner checked boxes that hadn’t existed. It was perfect, and so was the timing: it’s magical. Like a unicorn.
