As you may have heard, the 2020/2021 Portland real estate market was a frenzy, leaving even the most lion-hearted buyers to retreat, lick their wounds and hope that 2022 would be a year of abundant inventory.
There was a moment when I feared that Smita would join the ranks of beatdown buyers, but the fates had other ideas…
Smita had been looking for a home for 10 moths, and was beginning to grow weary of rejected offers, high prices, and homes that just weren’t right for her. Though she remained fun, buoyant, and incredibly positive, it was beginning to seem like maybe a break in the house hunt was in order to retain some sanity.
It was the eve of a vacation trifecta—Smita was headed to the coast for some R & R with her best friend, I was about to be off the grid communing with the trees, camping with my family, and my business partner, Matt, was also headed out for an ocean adventure. We were all hitting the pause button for a moment.
I was looking over the last batch of listings for the weekend, and I saw a cute SE ranch style home, but it just didn’t look quite right for Smita, so I deleted it. Oddly, that deleted home started nagging at the back of my mind a for a few hours. I fished it out of the virtual trash and passed the listing along to Smita.
She also wasn’t wowed by it. She was debating passing it up, but figured she would bring her best friend with her to see one more home before they headed out of town.
Neither of us expected that Smita would fall in love with this home and it would be “the one.”
This house was sooooooo much better in person and checked all the right boxes on the Smita’s First Home List.
Somehow this home refused to be forgotten by us, refused to be passed up—it was like the house knew it was supposed to belong to Smita.
Well, one accepted offer later, hilarity ensued as everyone on the vacation trifecta was scrambling for cell or internet service, driving miles to find enough bars on their phone, and doing whatever it took to get documents signed and next steps in order. A true team effort—and what a team it is!
As you can see from this glorious picture, it all worked out very well! Smita is a very happy first time home buyer—in 2021 no less!
The house called and we listened—so glad it had good reception.
