As a Real Estate Broker in Portland, Oregon, I’ve learned a lot about foundations in my time in this business. River rock concrete, modern concrete, pony-walls, post & pier…I know all the words. “Foundation” is such a metaphor for so many things in life. Honestly, we’ve been having a lot of trouble at home with our soon-to-be-13 year old and I’ve been concerned A LOT about his foundation. He is a great human but is going to have issues with his work ethic and relationship with “truth” if he stays on his current path. Whenever I meet new friend and/or clients, those first few interactions will tell you a lot about their foundation.
When I met my client Miles in 2020, it was obvious that his parents raised him well. In a world of materialism and low-self-esteem he comes off as humble and quietly confident. Our home search was an adventure. Miles knew what he wanted and was willing to be patient until there was the right opening to take his shot. After a handful of offers we got one to stick on a house that is a perfect fit for his needs. He literally worked his way through some ACTUAL foundation issues on the house to land on an acceptable outcome. I’m super-excited to hand off the keys tomorrow and to see how he grows into this place over the years. I’m taking a wild guess here, but I BET he is the first one of friend group to own his own home. Here’s to a solid foundation.
