Good news has been in short supply these days, so when we witness something thoughtful, kind, selfless and generous, it’s a big deal. In fact, we should take a moment to step back and appreciate how these acts of kindness can be transformative in so many ways.
Case in point: a long-time client of mine just purchased a home, but not for herself. She has good friends who were having trouble qualifying for a loan, and have spent over two years trying to find a home for themselves to fix-up, build equity and establish a foothold in the community. She realized their struggles, understood that she was in a position to help, and jumped in feet first to help her friends’ dreams come true.
We were able communicate well as a team, fully aligned in the goals, and clear-eyed about the various challenges involved. We worked together over the course of the fall and early winter to find a home that met their needs and budget. (Of course, not an easy task in this market for most people!) However, we were successful in the first days of the new year having an offer accepted on a house that met all of their criteria.
My client’s friend is a contractor who is skilled at making repairs; he and his wife have a great vision for turning this house into their home. The transaction went very smoothly, and everyone is happy. Wins all around!
I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in helping this incredible gift come true. And, for me, it’s the perfect first transaction of the year — one that will help me stay grounded throughout what I expect will be another very busy, dynamic and active year. I’ll keep close the knowledge that generosity, service and kindness resonate in ways beyond which we expect.
