Winning Real Estate In The Winter

By Yonette Fine, February 20, 2024

It is well known that the real estate market has busy and slow seasons, and that winter is traditionally on the slower side. As a real estate agent, I have found winter to be a wonderful time to reconnect with family, friends and myself. The start of the year is a natural time to set goals and “right yourself”, and can be a time to revel in all that you accomplished in the past year, while looking forward and sculpting your year to come.

The number one way I like to win in the winter is setting dates with family and friends. After the holidays, I pick up the phone and/or computer and book one date per day, or close to that, with people I missed during the busier real estate seasons. These dates range from hikes to happy hours, and my calendar fills quickly! Everyone is missing everyone, and I take charge and arrange for some overdue QT. As I am known to book as far out as a month in advance, I always reconfirm dates the night before and show up with all that positive “new year” energy. This makes for fun, refreshing, IRL dates that fuel all involved. While these moments of reconnection are not meant to be business meetings, my people are always curious about the current state of the market, which I study closely, and they often share thoughts of buying or selling, or know someone looking to make a move.

Another key to winning real estate in the winter is reconnecting with myself. For me, a solid practice of movement in the morning, breakfast with the family and jumping right into my work day, which I have organized the night before, is step number one. As I have one more kiddo in the house, prioritizing him is key, so I work while he is in school. Often we have a “homework party” after school, which is a way for me to get work in while hanging out with my little man. I will take all the moments I can get before he heads off to college. Unless I have an evening engagement, my husband & I (read: mostly my husband) prepare a killer meal for the family, and we pass a couple hours of juicy conversation around the table. After an evening walk, I like to settle into a good book, good show or anything else that feels nourishing to my soul. That is really the key, self nurturing. This allows me to recover from the sprinting that occurs during the busier seasons, and gets me fit and ready, physically and mentally, for that springtime start.

Being a luxury real estate agent requires all that I have in me to show up for my clients in a way that exemplifies “white glove service”. Part of winning real estate during ALL seasons is keeping up on my education and the flow of this dynamic market. Additionally, I need my vendor list up-to-date and ready for anything my clients may require. Winter is a wonderful time to stay connected with all of my subs, in addition to participating in as many continuing education courses as I can. I have even decided to get licensed in California this year to help my family and friends further afield.

Never a dull moment in real estate, even during the winter. Go out there and get it!
