In late 2016 one of my longtime clients reached out to let me know that his sister, Paulina, had always had a dream of raising horses. She wanted to create a sanctuary where vets could come to work with these beautiful animals and treat their PTSD. Paulina had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and her brother was determined to make her dream a reality.
We set to work searching for a property that would meet the needs of this family and found a beautiful twenty acre parcel in McMinnville shortly after. Her brother, husband and in fact her whole family all pitched in to make this purchase happen. It was incredible to see this family come together in love. At Christmas they let Paulina know what they had done and she was extremely moved. Even though the home was a fixer she could see the potential and knew that her dream was coming true.
The family worked together to fix up the property and spent several blissful months enjoying the serenity of this retreat. Paulina got her horses. She often commented on the beauty of the land, the healing she felt there, and the joy she experienced having this dream fulfilled. When she talked about her horses she glowed with a lovely inner light.
In November of 2017, despite all of the treatments to stop it, the cancer won. I am forever grateful to have been a part of helping this wonderful woman fulfill her dream and spend her last days blissfully happy. It is an experience I will never forget.
A few months ago the family decided it was time to pass this incredible property along to a new owner so that they could experience what Paulina felt there. Some wonderful first time homebuyers are thrilled to be closing on this home today. Having this listing was bittersweet for me but I am happy that the new owners get to continue Paulina’s dream.
Life is short. Grab on to the beauty of it and don’t let go. Love you, Paulina.
