Neahkahnie… what does that mean? The Nehalems, the first local inhabitants of this area that we are historically aware of, believed that Neahkahnie Mountain was the God Kahnie, laying on his side next to the sea. They walked the trails that crossed the mountain with care a reverence, especially those at the very edge above the water.
