I met Lauren and Charlie in a fairly awkward fashion: they were the tenants in a rental property that I was about to list.
It can be hard to not seem like the bad guy in a situation like that. Tenants tend to think that REALTORS® are basically ambulance chasers and I work hard to prove them wrong. It can still be an uphill battle, though. Luckily for me, Lauren and Charlie were friends with their landlords. They arranged for all of us to get together and talk. We sat down and discussed how things would work moving forward with the sale. I asked a lot of questions about what would make them feel the most comfortable throughout the process. I worked hard to make sure they knew their safety during Covid was my priority.
Closing a tenant occupied property can be a long process. About a month or so into it I got a call from Lauren: she and Charlie had been pre-approved to buy their first home and they wanted me to help them find it. I was honored! The fact that I went from “ambulance chaser” to “trusted advisor” in their minds was a huge compliment.
We got to work right away to find their perfect home. They fell in love with a beautiful property in Beaverton during our first outing together. Luckily, one of my wonderful colleagues from Living Room was the list agent. We got our offer accepted, even though it was a multiple offer situation and there was a higher offer in!
I’m so thrilled for Lauren and Charlie, who just closed on their new home. Helping first time homebuyers is my absolute favorite.
