One-Level Living: Bill and Alice’s Perfect Fit

By Sharon Bloudek, October 16, 2024

There’s nothing more rewarding than helping repeat clients find the home of their dreams. Recently, my fellow Bridge to Portland Group teammate, Genmae Rianelli and I had the pleasure of working with Bill and Alice, a wonderful couple I first met back in 2017 when I helped them buy their first home in Oregon.

Searching for the Perfect Home

This time around, they were searching for their forever home—one with accessibility in mind. A single-level layout was a must, as well as a level lot for easy walking, plenty of natural light, and a location in one of a few hand-picked neighborhoods. As homes came on the market, Genmae and I were quick to jump on new listings, making sure to get in to see them as soon as possible. The market was full of potential, and we toured many houses that worked in some ways, but none that checked all of Bill and Alice’s boxes.

Finding Their Dream Home in Tigard

Then we found the perfect fit—a darling one-level home in Tigard. From the moment Bill and Alice stepped inside, we could tell this house was special to them. It was a late ’80s build, and the home stayed true to the era with a beautiful bay window in the front that filled the entire space with natural light. The primary bedroom was spacious with vaulted ceilings, and the lighter wood finishes throughout gave the home a warm, familiar feeling. It already reminded them of home.

A Setback and a Tough Decision

Genmae and I quickly wrote an offer, hoping to secure the home before anyone else had the chance—and we did! But after the inspections, there were quite a few issues to work through. Bill and Alice gave it a lot of thought, and ultimately, they made the difficult decision to walk away when we couldn’t reach an agreement with the sellers. It wasn’t easy, but it was the right choice for them.

An Unexpected Second Chance

We kept pushing forward, looking at more homes while staying in touch with the listing agent from that original Tigard home just in case something changed. And sure enough, a couple of weeks later, I got the call—the sellers were willing to meet Bill and Alice’s terms if they were still interested!

A Happy Ending

With so much excitement, Bill and Alice quickly agreed, and we were back in contract, moving quickly toward the finish line. Seeing them at their signing was such a magical moment—the joy in the room was contagious! But giving them the keys? That was the best moment of all.

Congratulations to Bill and Alice on finding their forever home! Genmae and I couldn’t be happier for them.

Oh, and just for the record—Bill is a Mets fan, and I’m a die-hard Dodgers fan. With the National League Championship Series going on, it’s safe to say that our real estate teamwork is much smoother than our baseball rivalry! But in the end, it’s all in good fun (and maybe a bit of bragging rights). May the best team win!
