The house always finds you. I say this so often, and I mean it! No buyers more clearly demonstrate this than Rachel and Nick.
We met at a sunny open house in North Portland – they were excited about the house I was holding open, so we met for coffee that afternoon to write an offer. Since we’d just met, I gave them the crash course version of my first time buyer talk, and they were so on it. We ended up being one of eight offers – a little scary for a first offer! Bidding went above their comfort zone, and they moved on without blinking.
We then saw a slew of houses weekly for several weeks – they were focused and determined. A few more contenders came up. One ended in heartbreak when their offer was at the top of the stack, until a last minute buyer came in with cash. Another had them at the top of the stack until another buyer came in with a huge appraisal concession we couldn’t beat.
Like total troopers, they kept at it. Another contender came up, it was adorable and in a great location…but the basement was covered in mold, and I had big questions about the foundation. Fortunately, after hearing my concerns, they were open to looking at a few more options before submitting an offer.
And then it happened. That moment when you’ve been looking and looking, and suddenly everyone knows you’re standing in THE house. It didn’t seem too exciting from the pictures, but it was such a great house in person! Rather than rolling on to see the others on the list, we went straight to a coffee shop to write the offer. And less than 24 hours later, they were under contract at last!
Now they have the house they’d dreamed of to make their own. It checked more boxes than any of the others, and as always, the house found its people!
