Black Snot. Itchy Skin. Happy Closing

By Living Room Realty, June 30, 2023

Houses built before the mid 20th century used a type of knob and tube wiring.  Porcelain knobs and tubes were used and were drilled into the rafters or attic floors where electrical wiring passes through.  Strands of wire run along the rafters a few inches apart from each other to keep them from overheating (picture a spider’s web). If this type of electrical wiring has insulation over it, there sometimes not enough circulating air which can cause these old wires to overheat, creating a potential fire hazard. Home owner’s insurance companies will often NOT INSURE a home with this type of old wiring.

Why am I crawling in my seller’s attic? I am removing all of the insulation prior to an electrician coming out to take out the old wiring. Why?  Because sometimes realtors go to extreme lengths to keep real estate deals together. Was removing this god-forsaken insulation hours of fun? NO. Did it help a deal close? YES. Will I volunteer to do it again? – NO.

This is what getting it done looks like. House sold. Happy sellers.
