I love being an agent for clients in my own neighborhood. Recently, I helped a neighbor go from renter to homeowner without having to switch neighborhoods. For a single parent with a young daughter attending elementary at Sabin, it was important not to change schooling districts. Not only because Sabin is great for education but because we did not want to disrupt her daughter’s routine of being able to walk to school or play with her friends in the neighborhood. We wanted this family to remain in the community they loved.
The additional challenge (and the main reason for the real estate hunt) was that this single parent had recently had to have their father move in with them. The close proximity of 3 generations under one roof became quite a challenge. It was made very evident in their day to day lives that they all needed their own space. The rental home was not a good fit any longer.
As it would happen, there was a 3 story town house 3 blocks from my own home and just a few away from their rental home that was the perfect fit. With a 2 room suite and bathroom on the lowest level, the grandfather has his own space to set up the perfect bachelor pad.
With the other bedrooms on the topmost level of the home, the mother and daughter have their girl’s retreat. All generations can meet in the middle level of the home where the kitchen, dining, den, fireplace and access to the back yard are. A perfect compromise and arrangement of spaces for a happy home.
