Katherine and Ken are fantastic human beings. They called me a couple of months ago with a problem: their daughter was having a terrible time finding a decent rental. So being the great people they are, they decided to take this problem and turn it into a positive for the community. They would buy a house and their daughter could rent it from them while she goes to school. When she moves out in a few years they will offer the home as a rental to the community, but at below market rates. They understand the need for affordable housing in Portland and are using their position of privilege to make a lasting impact on the city they love! They also have plans to host a refugee family at this new home, which is the icing on the cake.
It is a tough market for buyers right now. The competition for homes is fierce! Katherine sent me a home they were very interested in and we went to tour it right away. There were already multiple offers in and we put together a strong offer that we hoped would appeal to the sellers. Unfortunately, the competition was so fierce that the seller chose a higher offer. It was a great house, so we were all bummed. But I know that when it is meant to work out it will. Lo and behold, a couple of days later I got a call. The top offer had gotten cold feet and the list agent wanted to know if Katherine and Ken were still interested. They were over the moon!
Katherine and Ken closed on their new property this week. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this experience!
