Where are my Dragons!?! We wrote an offer on this house right about when the series finally of Game of Thrones was happening so a lot of our talk was in the context of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms. As you all know now…it is the Six Kingdoms + The North.
Anyhow, entering the market as a buyer in March/April of any year can feel like storming Winterfell with an army of 20; it can be daunting. I always tell my clients to stick with it and the timing will come together when the Old Gods and The New are ready to allow it.
The first offer that Meg & Sam put together was on a hot property in SE Portland a little too close to 82nd (in my opinion). It got like 9 offers and the winner paid too much. That was a shot across the bow: to go all-in like that and still come up $20k short of the winner.
Offer 2: they were ready to put a real offer out there to compete. This house was super-dialed in N Portland pretty close to St. Johns. Again, a stack of offers and I thought we had a legit chance at it. Somebody decided to blow everyone else out of the water and pay $15k higher than the next closest offer; practically $75k over asking. Who does that?!? We came in a distant 3rd.
Good thing Meg and Sam didn’t get either of those because a more perfect home was in their future…at a lower price point no less. Not even the Three Eyed Raven saw that coming. When it was time compose the offer, they were ready to lay waste to King’s Landing. A few hearts were broken along the way, but the end result of peace in the kingdom was worth all of the cannon fodder.
