Leslie and Matthew were referred to me by dear friends. They’ve been living in a San Fransisco apartment for more than a decade with their daughter, but have been longing for a place to call their own. A home that would allow them to spread out and more space for their kiddo to grow and play.
We sat up a time to chat via zoom to talk about their needs and wants in a home and what the home buying process looks like when you’re buying from a distance. We talked about the possibility of them buying sight unseen if needed. I’d completed two “sight unseen” transactions in the last year alone, both turning out to be successful. This would be potentially be the third.
When buying from a distance and purchasing without having stepped foot in the house, it’s extremely important that your realtor is someone you can trust and who has a really good idea of what you’re looking for in a home.
We meet once in person to tour a handful of homes during a weekend visit. From that visit I payed careful attention to what my clients were telling me and asked more questions than they could possibly answer, but ones that really helped them learn quickly what was most important to them.
We virtually toured together over several weekends after they returned home and finally found one that checked all the boxes. It was going to be competitive, so we talked about strategies that would best position them to have their offer accepted. They listened and they trusted me.
The home received five very competitive offers, but with a strong offer submitted and ongoing communication with the listing agent, we were able to secure this home for Leslie and Matthew!
Matthew flew out for the inspection, and confirmed that this was the house for them. I couldn’t be happier for their family and so excited to welcome them to Portland! If you’re considering purchasing from a distance and want to work with an agent that’s not afraid to help you purchase sight unseen if needed, please reach out. It’s possible!
