Jordan and Jamie moved from North Portland to Mt Tabor in 2014. They enrolled their daughter at Atkinson Elementary, and set about joining and getting to know the neighborhood. It turns out Mt. Tabor was the perfect fit! They’ve made many great friends and neighbors and have loved the school, parents and community. They also loved their super charming bungalow on 56th street. But, it wasn’t full-filling all their needs. They talked quite a bit about remodeling versus moving. The most compelling reason for them to remodel, was that they loved their neighbors and neighborhood. They DID NOT want to leave Mt. Tabor. I met with them to go over pros and cons, and give them an idea of before and after remodel values.
While still in the throes of meeting with me and an architect, gathering information, an amazing house came on the market just a few blocks away. We were all out of town when it came up, and there was a last minute scramble to get back and walk through. It was awesome! I knew the house well, I had it listed the last time it was on the market. Long story short, there was a race to get pre-approved, write an offer and submit. We got our offer in at the last moment. As things sometimes go, they didn’t get their offer accepted. There was a bidding war and ultimately someone else came in stronger. Man, they were bummed, but knew they had done everything they could. So, they applied for a home equity loan, and called their architect, taking it as a sign to stay put.
Little did we know that first house was just a fire drill. Barely a week later, their real dream home came on the market. A home the likes of which they didn’t think they could find in Mt Tabor. An amazing mid-century home on .66 acres, with not one, but two giant redwood trees. The remodeled kitchen with huge sliding door to the patio and entertaining area sealed the deal and they wrote the offer of a life time. They had some serious competition, but having just been through the process, they were ready to get down to brass tacks. We wrote an offer with as many strong points as we could conjure up, sent a letter with photos, and acted as the squeaky wheel until we got the news; they came out on top! Just barely. Someone else came out swinging too, but we edged them out enough to win first position. This house was the real fire, and they were to ready to take action! I’m so excited for them to have a home they love, that meets all their needs, right in their neighborhood!
