I met Heather and Eric through some mutual friends. This sweet couple had decided to look for their first home during a pandemic, which is challenging. What’s even more challenging is that our market here in Portland has been white hot, making entry level homes tough to come by at reasonable prices.
Heather and Eric are smart folks, though. While they had a healthy budget to work with, they decided to consciously work to keep their payments as affordable as possible. Instead of looking at the detached homes that all of the other buyers are salivating over, they turned their attention to the condo market.
You see, while detached homes are selling like hotcakes in multiple offers, condos are not. Maybe it’s the proximity to neighbors or the lack of yard space but the condo market has been fairly soft lately. Heather and Eric live in Lake Oswego already and very quickly stumbled on a lovely attached-style condo unit in a well-run complex. It was down the street from their current home, which was a huge plus! It also had the feeling of an individual house without the hefty price tag. There was even a small backyard, which was a lovely bonus!
Rather than fighting with other buyers in a bidding war, Heather and Eric were able to snap up this property with little issue. And the best part is that they will be able to make small updates over time that boost the value of the property even more. Congrats, Heather and Eric, on your incredible new home!
