I first met Rohan in spring of 2019. As a first-time buyer, he had a pretty specific set of criteria. Condo living suited him best. He wanted a low maintenance yard. He needed high ceilings and hardwoods. A vented hood in the kitchen. Two car parking was a must. Reasonable HOA. And, he wanted a view. I helped him understand that it would probably take a while for us to find the right place, but we were going to make it happen. Because, in the words of Yoda, Do or Do Not. There is No Try.
Attitude and mindset is a big part of real estate. It’s easy to quickly go to a place of discouragement if the right place doesn’t immediately pop up. Especially in the market right now – inventory is low. If you can, be patient and channel your inner Jedi. Know that more homes are coming, and the market is about to enter its upswing, where more inventory is available. With more inventory, comes more buyers, AKA competition – so it’s really important you have all the pieces in play for when the right home comes up for you. Talk to a lender to understand your purchase power. Find the right real estate partner (I’d love to be considered!). Hone in on your must-haves and good-to-haves, and be ready to make some compromises. And if it involves selling a home, please reach out to me for a listing consultation; often times, sellers are poised to make repairs or remodels that won’t impact their bottom line at closing. Don’t waste your time or money. Do talk to a real estate expert first, to line up the optimal timing to make a move.
Speaking of time, it may have taken Rohan eight months to find his perfect place… but in the interim I was able to join him on the journey of getting engaged, career advancements, helping two of his friends buy new homes, and now, getting ready to move into his beautiful condo with a view of Mt. Hood, the waterfront, and a killer master en suite. That’s the good stuff.
If 2020 involves a real estate resolution, may the force be with you. And, I hope you #callgab 503 388 2788
