Blog Fixer Dream A Little Dream With Me

Dream A Little Dream With Me

By Constance Rigney, March 9, 2019

Valentin, Gerardo, and Maria had been saving, dilligently, for 19 years, to bring their dream to fruition.  When I met them, at the end of this 19th year, they were ready, joyful, and excited to finally make it happen.

A garden.  A big kitchen, for cooking some of the best mole in town.  A yard for community celebrations.  A shorter commute to work.  A home to pass on to their three gorgeous children.  These were the simple wishes of Maria, Gerardo, and Valentin.  It was not a lot to ask, but there seemed to be a lot of people asking for the same thing, in the same price range. They knew they were going to have to put in some work.

We saw some great houses that we got out bid on.  We saw some awful houses that we walked away from.  Although there was a lot of competition, and a fair amount of disappointment, we never strayed from the belief that their house was out there, waiting for them.

And, then, on New Year’s Eve, we got the good news. The cute little 1930s bungalow, in Brentwood, was theirs! It was the best way to end 2018 that I could imagine.

Ultimately, what won the house for them was the letter they crafted about their family, and presented to the Seller with their offer.  The letter was full of their history, their dreams, and their love of the house.  It’s not the first time, and I’m sure it won’t be the last, that these personal touches have made all the difference.  It’s all about the connection.

It can be hard to be a first-time homebuyer.  The process can seem daunting, and arduous.  But, by finding the right team, working together, and being patient anything is possible.  These dreams come true all the time.

What I love about the field of real estate is that essentially, it’s about dreams and possibilities. It’s about finding a space that can support the life you are envisioning and crafting.

Whether purchasing your first home, dialing in your next investment property, or selling your home, my goal as your agent is to be your ally and advocate, to work diligently and creatively to help you through the process. What distinguishes me from other REALTORS®? My style in both real estate, and the rest of life, is down to earth and humorous; my spirit warm and enthusiastic. Being flexible, thorough, ethical, and a topnotch communicator are the cornerstones of my business. I am a dedicated worker and won’t stop until I get the job done! I grew up on the East Coast, but my sense of adventure brought me to Oregon, where I found a richness of community, and a great love for the wondrous natural environment of the Northwest.  I spent ten years in this city as a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, all the while learning about Portland’s neighborhoods, and hidden gems, through the stories of the fascinating people that call this lovely city home. Joyfully part of a dream team, I’m currently partnered with Matt Guy, wonderful human and long time real estate whiz. We work expeditiously to successfully help our clients turn their vision into reality. In my free time you might find me living the VW Van life with my dreamy husband, Scott, and firecracker daughter Roslyn; soaking up the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, supporting local non-profits, or celebrating Portland’s local music scene.
