History Repeats Itself

By Living Room Realty, July 16, 2018

I first met Karin 15 years ago, when we were both early in our marketing careers working on the same team at a local company. She was a talented visual designer, I was the PR gal, and together, we carpooled from Portland to Tualatin daily. In our drive time we talked about our hopes and dreams — on personal and professional levels. We laughed. A lot. And when our career paths diverted a few years later, we sadly lost touch. When I finally decided to follow my dream of being a REALTOR®, I reached out to my network to excitedly share the news. And through that, Karin and I reconnected.

We were both now moms of two kiddos. We both had demanding, successful careers, and happy home and extracurricular lives. And it was SO GOOD to reconnect! Karin and her sweet family had outgrown their cute bungalow in Brentwood-Darlington and were ready to find a new home. I jumped in. Within a month we had both sold their house in SE Portland, and had an accepted offer on their new home.

Recently, I had the privilege of handing Karin and her family the keys to her historic home in Milwaukie. Originally built in the 1920’s, this grand dame has incredible bones, stately woodwork and plenty of room for Karin’s family to grow. They’re already in the thick of updates, painting rooms and polishing woodwork. I can’t wait to see what they do with the place. Now, Karin and I are making plans to go paddle boarding and catch up on life. And maybe we won’t talk about real estate… or maybe we will. Whatever the case, I’m so grateful for a career that provides me the opportunity to be a meaningful part of my friend’s stories and lives — old ones, and new ones.
