I’ve been saying it wrong all along! (Lil’ bit o’ trivia)

By Leanne Bach, May 31, 2018

I was doing some late night research on one of my listings the other night (The Vaux Condominium), and ended up nerding out on articles regarding The Vaux Swifts. Most Portlanders know about this seasonal swarm of birds that congregates in the chimney at Chapman Elementary in NW. Link here to those whom are interested in witnessing this extraordinary event.

But what I learned is that we’ve all been pronouncing “Vaux” incorrectly. Ha! No big deal, I know, but I’m kind of obsessed with phonetics and pride myself at being pretty damn good at my pronunciations. Here is the Smithsonian article I was reading that enlightened me. Hope you find it interesting too!

And if you haven’t seen the swifts OR my listing for sale at 2335 NW Raleigh St #403, consider this a public service announcement to get out there and do so!
