Looking for a great way to cool off this summer? Instead of hitting the local movie theater, hanging out at the pool, or (if you’re blessed with air conditioning ) lazing away at home. But there are options that can sooth our bodies and challenge our minds closer to home than we realize.
Head down to the Portland Art Museum and take in history, art, social education and culture.
Here’s my top 3 of the 12 current exhibitions, but don’t miss the museum’s permanent collection.
Color Line: Black Excellence on the World Stage – photographs and images put together by the great W.E.B. Du Bois for the International Exhibition of 1900 in Paris – through October 27th
CCNA: Akunnittinni: A Kinngait Family Portrait – 3 generations of Inuk women communicate through visual art. Intimate, sometimes harsh with historical resonance, they chronicle the lives of a remote arctic community – through Jan 5th (2020)
Associated American Artist: Prints for the People – a selection from the AAA, an organization aimed to create and distribute fine art works for middle class Americans following the Great Depression. Through mail order, limited edition prints were made widely available, bringing depictions of relatable life via American Realist and Social Realism styles to the people – through Aug 18th
