Jon and I were so happy and honored to help this family. I met them a few years ago when they started thinking about buying a home, and we started talking again this year because they were ready to take the big step!
With the low inventory market, we found ourselves competing against several other buyers and we knew we needed to be super strategic. We saw a potential opportunity coming up with the weather forecast – snow was in our future! In this city, most people avoid driving in the snow, but thankfully Jon (originally from Minnesota) has the perfect car for driving in tough conditions and didn’t mind doing so. With the weather being a “maybe it’s going to be big” and a “maybe it won’t happen”, we decided to be prepared anyway and to get them into all of the homes they wanted to see before the impending snow dump. Turns out, there WAS snow, ice, and several thousand people in Portland lost power. Our strategy paid off – no one could get in to see the home after the storm started, and we had made it just in time. Instead of competing with 10+ offers, there were only 2 on the home and we got it! The house ticked all of their boxes with location, size, enough room to entertain, and a backyard.
It takes thinking outside of the box, it takes hustle, and it takes a really strong offer to get a home in this low inventory market. And, 4 wheel drive helps too!
