Neighborhood Spotlight: Powell Butte Nature Park

By Living Room Realty, October 18, 2019

One of the best things about Portland is you can be out running errands and decide to pop up and do a quick hike in the middle of the city. A jaunt up Mt. Tabor is an obvious way to burn off some morning donuts found on Hawthorne, and Powell Butte Nature Park is ideal if you want a quick escape to 600+ wide open acres. You can even bring your horse!

The city officially established Powell Butte as a nature park in 1987. It opened to the public in 1990 and is managed by Portland Parks & Recreation.

Today, there are miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Keep an eye out for abundant wildlife, including rabbits, ring-necked pheasants, ground squirrels, raccoons, gray foxes, skunks, bats, chipmunks, coyotes, and black-tailed mule deer.

Should I wait until mortgage rates drop before I buy?

Nobody has a crystal ball, but most projections suggest mortgage rates will stay above 6% for the foreseeable future. Even if they do drop, it’s likely to be a gradual decline, not an overnight plunge.
