I first met Jesse about seven years ago when he was toying with the idea of moving to Portland and buying a house, possibly with a friend that he had known since childhood. He didn’t make the leap right away, but we stayed in touch, and a bit more than a year ago, he let me know he was finally set to make Portland his home. Fast forward to earlier this year, and we were house hunting, eventually stumbling upon this gem in the Rose City neighborhood with a killer yard. Now, Jesse’s a happy home owner!
His connection with me is a wonderful web of connections. I’ve worked with his brother, his parents (who both are amazing in their own right. Jesse’s father was a Religion professor at the University of Kansas who’s major research focus was on the history of intentional communities in America – which as someone who grew up in Eugene in the 70s, is an area of interest right up my alley!!), and helped the aforementioned friend get their own home a few years back. Seeing Jesse realize his dream of owning a home in Portland go from just an idea to reality has been a blast, especially considering our first chat about it years ago, and in getting to know his family and friends through the years.
Also Jesse’s an amazing guy with a cool job as the Lead Botanist for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, where he works with rare and endangered plants. He also used to be an ecology lecturer at Stanford! Hearing his tales about rare plants or past adventures was awe-inspiring. It is so fun getting to know amazing people, hear their interesting life stories and paths, and help them find a home.
Here’s to many happy years to Jesse in his new digs! I’m stoked to have gotten to know him and call him a client.
