After 30 years of creating memories Jan and Earl decided to sell their home in Lake Oswego in the spring of 2020. It was bittersweet as it was the home they lived in and raised their two boys. They knew they would miss their lovely neighbors and quiet street but they were ready to downsize and were looking forward to spending more time in their new house in Arizona.
The plan was to come visit family in Portland in the summers and beat the Arizona heat. They didn’t have any particular timeline in mind for finding a new place and figured they could rent a few different places to see what areas they liked best in and around the city.
As soon as the holidays rolled around they got some exciting news that their younger son and his wife were expecting a baby. They were thrilled and at the same time had a sudden sense of urgency to find a place back in the Portland area. They started to watch the housing market so they could get a pulse on just how quickly homes were selling. They visited in the spring and couldn’t believe the demand in our market. They knew they needed to be poised and ready to go. They also got some more good news that their older son and his fiancé were expecting a baby as well. Two babies less than 3 months apart. They were ecstatic and now even more motivated to get settled.
They had identified a couple of 55 and over communities on golf courses that looked very attractive. They were surprised to learn that even in these communities that folks were still seeing multiple offers and escalating prices. With a ticking timeline they got organized and ready to write competitive offers. They didn’t want to spend all summer looking. So when a down to the studs remodeled home popped up on one level they didn’t waste anytime writing the strongest possible offer. To their delight their offer got accepted and just in time to start creating new memories as grandparents!
