There once was a bright young couple from Portland. Their names were Jon and Alli and they wanted to buy their first home. They started searching online and checking out open houses but quickly realized they needed more help than they were getting. Their lender and friend, Jordan Lee from Fairway Mortgage, connected them with me.
Jon and Alli felt overwhelmed with their options. Did they want a hip condo in Downtown? Or a duplex that they could rent out half of? Did they want something move in ready, or a project that they could add equity to? Alli was starting to feel overwhelmed. But she didn’t realize that every home we looked at together did some important work. Every home we looked at got us a bit closer to “the one.”
And then: we found it. A beautifully renovated home in Milwaukie. It was one block away from the river, where they could kayak and play with their dog. The aesthetics were just right and the seller had clearly done all work with care. Jon and Alli put in an offer and waited with bated breath. After a few days we got the news that their offer had been chosen! Jon and Alli relaxed, thinking that the hard part was over.
Oh no. It was not over. So silly to think that it was over! After a very good inspection we got a devastating call: the beautifully finished basement had flooded. There was an inch of water everywhere. And then there was an issue with the appraisal. And then the entire world locked down due to a global pandemic.
But the basement was fixed and is now better than ever. And the appraisal issue was resolved, with some careful work and collaboration between all sides. And, despite the pandemic, we made it to the finish line today. Y’all, we made it. Despite all of the hurdles, we made it. Jon and Alli get their happily ever after!
