Once in a while, I will list a property for sale where I never have the opportunity to meet the seller during the transaction. While it’s a little strange that the entire process can occur without a face to face meet, it’s sometimes necessary when the property owner cannot make it back to Oregon. Establishing trust takes conversation and it really helps if you’ve been referred by a past client. Such was the case with this just SOLD Mid-Century Modern in the dynamic Piedmont neighborhood!
My conversations with the seller, who was living in New Mexico, started in February when we began to plan for September sale. Much had changed in Portland since my seller purchased the property including the Oregon withholding laws for out of state owners and the more recent landlord-tenants laws. There was also the status of numerous personal possessions left behind some 5+ years ago in the upstairs unit when the seller believed she would return post grad school. A packing & shipping company was hired along with a junk removal service. Tenants were given ample notice, vacated late August and the property went on the market mid-September. Multiple offers were received and just the right fit buyer found for the property. The Buyer could see all the possibilities in the home and had skills to match her vision. We closed the end of October and the new owner was given the keys.
This home is located in the Piedmont neighborhood, a strong community offering a great mix of people from long term residents to a new influx of homeowners. Originally platted in 1889 it was promoted by it’s developer as “The Emerald, Portland’s Evergreen suburb” and is the site of the beautiful Peninsula Park, a park that contributed to Portland’s title as the “City of Roses”. Long a wonderful place to call home, I look forward to the continuing evolution of this extraordinary neighborhood as well as what the new owner does as she makes this house her home.
