It was a long day that had gotten the best of me, and it was topped off by my water bottle emptying out entirely into my purse as I walked onto the sideline of my son’s baseball game. I sat down purposely in my own little section of pity as I wiped down each portable worldly possession. After a few minutes of mustering up the energy to engage with other humans, a fellow parent and friend Nicole kindly introduced me to her friend Christen. She mentioned that she and her family were looking to buy a home and working on getting their pre-approval finalized with Travis Hoover of Loanstar Home Loans who also happens to be a friend and one of the coaches of the team. She asked me for a card, and we shared a good laugh as I together with an explanation and an eyeroll pulled out a soggy piece of card stock with my contact information on it.
Skip forward to a couple of games later where I sat on the bleachers adorning a trucker hat and talking with a couple of the other moms about a girl’s night that may or may not have taken a detour through the Taco Bell drive-thru. Next to me sat a guy who I had just assumed was a dad of someone on the other team, who was quietly chuckling at my antics. One of the girls had said something along the lines of “any night out with Erin ends with a good story”. Immediately after he turned to me and excitedly said, “Oh, are you Erin Primrose?!” I honestly didn’t know whether to lie and crawl under a rock or indulge in my new-found “celebrity” status. My reply was a sluggish maybe, and he proceeded to tell me that he was Christen’s husband and from there we continued to hang out and talk over a baseball game.
What a gift it was to be able to connect with these folks on a truly authentic level from the beginning, and I truly believe it translated to the process when it came time to begin searching for their new home. Originally, they were hoping to stay near Multnomah Village where they were currently living, and we saw every home that came up that closely matched their criteria. It didn’t take long to realize that a home that would meet their family’s needs and budget exists if they were willing to expand JUST a bit geographically. The moment they had made peace with the idea, a fantastic home came on the market just outside the border of their original polygonal map search. The home was priced high, and we put together an offer at less than list price and with some persuasion sellers accepted. In the end this family landed the space they desired on a great street within close distance to their new-found community and friends that mean so much to them.
Congratulations Christen, Alain, Amé and Sabine! I am so happy for you and super grateful to know each and every one of you.
I would love to be part of your next move…
