Savoring the Season

By Jené DeSpain, December 7, 2020

My parents love to throw a party. Give them a reason to host family & friends and with a flash, they will have music filling the house and a tablescape set with adorning floral and nibble arrangements aplenty. As my memory serves, eggnog was always present at every gathering from mid-November through January at my childhood home. The smell of rich, spicy nog mixed with bourbon brings warm thoughts of winter nights looking up at the Portland sky on my parent’s back deck, surrounded by friends watching for shooting stars, with the sound of embers crackling coming from their family room fireplace and records playing nearby.

Now that I have my own Portland home, carrying on their tradition of hosting has been a special part of my adult ritual. Eggnog continues to be a beloved treat during the winter season celebrations. I recently found this wonderful array of eggnog cocktail recipes on The Spruce Eats.

I am looking forward to trying out some of these over the next few weeks. If you happen to make one of them, send me a pic and a review of which of these beverages bring you warmth while we wrap up 2020 into a new year. Wishing you and all your loved ones Happy Holidays!
