On a recent dreary morning in Portland, I awoke to a text. One of my clients needed to reschedule. Groggy and half asleep, I went into my calendar and shifted the appointment to the following day. With one swift swipe, Monday had a totally different look. Monday was now blank.
I looked at Captain Salty (the dog).
“Beach?”
With a rush, I checked my weather app. THE COAST WAS CLEAR.
We packed a bag, in an Oregonian way. Imagining all the scenarios that might play out on a day at the Oregon Coast. We had a rain slicker, down jacket, down vest, sneakers, rain boots, beanie, baseball cap, gloves, wool sweater, fleece pullover, extra socks, extra pants, extra underwear (because you never know).
We picked up our pals in Irvington, one human and one dog. Heading west on Sunset Highway, we drove through farm country fog + rain, we drove over a snowy Coastal Range, but when we came out the other side, the skies were blue. The sun was golden. The air was beachy. The weather was right.
When life gives you a blank day, make it the most and head to the coast!
Haystack views + unique beach houses.
Rivers, waterfalls + a hidden beach.
If you find yourself around Depoe Bay. A secret treasure.
No other tide pools better than these.
Second best fish + chips on the Oregon Coast. (#1 is Bowpicker, Astoria)
