HOT BREAKFAST GRAINS WITH FRESH HERBS AND KASHA
SERVES 4
INGREDIENTS
1 cup uncooked hot cereal of your choice (I love Bob’s Red Mill Creamy Buckwheat Hot Cereal)
Pinch sea salt
1/4 cup kasha
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
Lemon juice, to taste
Chili oil and toasted sesame oil,
to taste
2 green onions, green and white
parts thinly sliced
1/4 cup chopped herbs of your choice (flat leaf parsley, cilantro, tarragon, basil)
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a medium pot, bring the cereal, salt, and 3 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Stir to make sure the grains aren’t sticking to the bottom of the pot, then lower the heat and simmer, covered, stirring occasionally.
- Cook for around 10 minutes until the grains have softened.
- Stir in the lemon juice then divide evenly among bowls. Top with the oils, kasha, sesame seeds, green onion, and herbs. Alternatively, invite each person to add their own toppings.
