Kenton: Where Paul Bunyan Stands Tall

While the cost of gas is a hindrance, it really does make us think about what amenities are closest to home. I love spending time in Kenton with its small town feel and its expansive options for restaurants, shops, and services. Here are a few of my favorites!

Posies

8208 N Denver Ave.

Small coffee shops are a Portland staple, and each have their own little quirks, but Posies has a special place in my heart. Not only do they conjure up a good brew or two, their pastries are like pockets of heaven on a plate. You’re sure to love anything they have on their beautiful counters.

Fang!

3131 N Lombard St.

Fang is the perfect place for both plant and pet parents. Their staff has amazing knowledge of their products, and their garden portion keeps you interested as the weather changes go by with seasonal offerings. I love that I can grab a pet appropriate plant and some pet treats to gift to my clients at closing!

Oregon Contemporary

8371 N Interstate Ave.

Offering free exhibition hours, the Oregon Temporary is Kenton’s own art gallery. Known for amazing special exhibitions such as Culinaria & Lavender House, you can now stop by and see the Rick Silva exhibit called Peaking (until June 26th)! Silva is an Oregon artist and this exhibit centers on his newest video works.

Artist & Craftsman Supply

2906 N Lombard St.

Now that you’ve got the artist bug, why not pick up some supplies from our local art supply store? As the spring evenings turn to summer, consider having a Bob Ross painting night with friends, and the lovely staff at Artist & Craftsman supply will help you find everything you need!

5 Ice Creameries in SW Portland That Put Buddy The Elf’s Breakfast Spaghetti To Festive Shame

Yes, yes, it’s the middle of winter, but sometimes you just need some ice cream to cheer you up, or to celebrate a big accomplishment! Napoleon, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Rocky Road are all classics but there are some awesome local spots that are shaking things up (no really, you can ask for these as shakes too). With bold and fun flavor combinations each creamery is bound to get you into the holiday spirit.

New Year, New You: 5 East Portland Spots to Get Your Pamper On

Every new year roughly 45% of Americans make a resolution around the vague category of wellness. For some, maybe it’s signing up for a gym membership, eating healthier, or focusing on mental health. While we are not here to shame those who get gym memberships and promptly forget about them (guilty!) or those who choose a new diet and find that their cheat days are actually four days a week, we are here to encourage some good feelings going into the new year. Taking an hour each week to reset can help create more balance in your life. Maybe that’s through reading that book you’ve been dying to read, taking baths and watching Netflix, or just staring at a wall and enjoying some silence. You’ll find that your mood is generally improved, even if just for the short term. Deliberately setting aside some time for yourself each week creates a routine. Maybe your new routine can include supporting local service vendors and getting your pamper on in the meantime.

Today we present “5 East Portland Spots To Get Your Pamper On”

Neighborhood Spotlight: Knot Springs

Sometimes it’s difficult to know you’re stressed until your body rebels and you land in a doctor’s office with any number of ailments as if it’s saying, “I’ve been trying to tell you to slow down and relax!” Spas are often a last ditch destination to miraculously cure an out of whack system. Why not take that trendy self care seriously before you’re forced to?

Knot Springs calls itself “Portland’s Social Club for Wellness Lovers.” That means, yes, it’s a spa, but it’s also a co-ed space where you can keep to yourself, or make friends, while you bask in sauna/steam rooms and soak in a series of pools they call “The Springs.” Spa treatments? Of course. They’ve got all the favorites. Knot Springs is especially known for their foot massages.

You can book The Springs as needed, or become a monthly member. Now THAT’S self care. Know someone who can’t afford to treat themselves? A gift certificate to Knot Springs is the ultimate surprise.
