Blog Stories Perspective. Kindness. Balance. Empathy.

Perspective. Kindness. Balance. Empathy.

By Andy Meeks, April 22, 2021

What an amazing run of weather we’ve had here in Portland since the beginning of April. Sunshine and warm, calm weather has made it feel more than June than April, and the buying season has felt similarly ahead of schedule. It’s been a busy, busy time of year and everyone is working serious overtime. And not just brokers: all of our clients, lenders, transaction coordinators, assistants, escrow officers,  inspectors, contractors, and our cars. Buyers, especially, are under the most pressure right now: they’ve needed to have their pencils sharpened, their strategies honed, and their nerves braced while they double-down on new listings scrolling and going up against stiff competition week after week. And it’s during these times of stress where character really shines

“It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you react to it that matters.” – Epictectus

My buyer clients have had their share of ups-and-downs this month, with successful closings, but also terminated transactions. All of them, though, have kept their positive energy alive and maintained a healthy dose of perspective. And, ultimately, that’s what really matters in this business: Perspective. Kindness. Balance. Empathy. And some damn good celebrating once it all comes together! Here’s to all the hard-working buyers out there…your key day is coming!

Also, this video pretty much nails it:

He/Him

My clients are always my top priority, and my singular focus is their success. This is the intention I set every day. My training and background as a licensed attorney helps me lead with a sharp attention to detail, a keen ear and focused voice, and an unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency and discretion. I’m a passionate advocate and I thrive when helping others succeed, and I’m always available to connect over a cup of coffee to learn how I can help make good things happen. Read my client reviews here. The choice to become a real estate broker was a joyful combination of two very different careers. Prior to moving to Portland in 2008, I was an environmental and title closing attorney in Massachustts. Since then, I've served as a program manager and fundraising professional for Portland-based non-profit organizations Friends of Trees, The Freshwater Trust and Ecotrust. While not scouting homes and helping clients, you can find me riding bicycles, skiing, digging in the garden, experimenting in the kitchen, and exploring the stunning beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Please let me know how I can help you or someone you know. Thank you! *I'm licensed as an attorney in Massachusetts and can't offer any sort of legal advice.
