The massive Eagle Creek wildfire last September in the Gorge affected 48,831 acres over several weeks, displacing wildlife, residents and the valuable fall tourism business.
While the impacts were significant, they weren’t as devastating as first thought. In fact, a recent study concluded that just 21,900 acres were ‘highly’ or ‘moderately’ burned.
Check out this great map from the USDA Forest Service highlighting what’s open in the western and eastern ends of the Gorge.
Also, consider supporting local businesses when you’re out there. If you’re a beer lover, the Thunder Island Brewing Company serves delicious beer in an incomparable setting.
